March 7, 2010 – The Blessing of Belonging to God

Things are getting tense in Egypt because God’s plagues keep coming. No sooner than the frogs die, millions of annoying insects show up, sent by God. But this time God’s children are spared. God sets them apart, and from here on out they suffer none of the consequences the Egyptians experience during the remaining plagues.

One of our confessions says, “I belong body and soul . . . not to myself, but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ . . . that He protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head” (#1, Heidelberg Confession). God’s word says God holds you in the palm of His hand. That might bring questions to your mind, like, what about when bad things happen to good people? It’s a complex issue, but no matter what, we can count on the fact that God has a plan. We’ll explore the topic this Sunday. Read Exodus 8:20-32 to prepare. See you then!

30 So Moses left Pharaoh’s palace and pleaded with the Lord to remove all the flies. 31 And the Lord did as Moses asked and caused the swarms of flies to disappear from Pharaoh, his officials, and his people. Not a single fly remained. 32 But Pharaoh again became stubborn and refused to let the people go.

This Pharaoh guy just doesn’t get it. God created everyone you and me and even Pharaoh and has feelings for us and everyone, even Pharaoh.

We are all sinners but by the grace of God. God will forgive us, but only if we asked him.
