How important is your personal integrity to you? Do you live by childhood admonitions that encourage honesty and truthfulness? I remember George Washington said, “I cannot tell a lie . . . But then a few centuries later George Burns said, “Acting is all about honesty. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made.”
Our story this Sunday is about a couple, Ananias and Sapphira, who determined not to be honest and forthright. They were a part of that first community of Christians, only they deceived their fellow believers, at the cost of their lives. It’s a brutally honest story. But the Bible, thankfully, tells us the truth. It’s not a book of platitudes about “do this and don’t do that,” rather it tells about people’s successes and failures, as far as God is concerned. Hope you can join us. It promises to be a truth that sets you free.
