June 14, 2009 – Special Storytelling of the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus by Dean Hertenstein

This week marks the last in our series of Jesus’ parables. It’s been wonderful to learn what Jesus has to say, and what He believes deeply in. The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus tells us God expects us to learn from the Bible and incorporate its lessons into our lives. Yet how often we forget to take those lessons to heart! In Sunday’s parable the rich man dies and finds himself in torment for not living according to Scripture. His chief concern becomes that someone warns his still-living brothers so they will not suffer the same fate.

How easy is it for us to hear and follow the Bible? We would all say sometimes it’s very easy and sometimes extremely hard. Perhaps this parable will help us identify some of the things with which we struggle. Then, believing what we read, the Scriptures transform us. When we let go of ungodly thinking, we are set free from the bondage of living as if God is not present and that this life is all there is.
