Giving and Receiving Respect

November 20 2022

Series: Stewardship

Topic: Stewardship

Book: Matthew

Sunday we celebrate Thanksgiving as a church with dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. I hope you will attend, bringing two items for twelve to share. Thanksgiving Day was founded on sharing. In 1621 the Colonists and the Wampanoag tribe shared a meal in Plymouth, Massachusetts to thank God for the life-giving harvest. But that was not the only Thanksgiving. Historians tell us that in the late 1500’s, 800 Spanish settlers at St. Augustine, Florida shared a celebratory meal to thank God with the native Timucuan people. Then, in 1789, George Washington called for a day of Thanksgiving on the last Thursday of November to thank God, and commemorate the end of the Revolutionary War and the ratification of the Constitution. The Thanksgiving celebration continues on at each important turn of our nation.

Thanksgiving is about both giving and receiving, all of which are high values in the Bible. Sunday we think about our own church–and make our own pledge to support FPCD, which exists to tell you about Jesus Christ, to nurture your faith, and to reach out and bless the community around us. Will you join us this Sunday? Sunday School begins at 9:15 and worship at 10:30. This week please bring your blue stewardship pledge card for Commitment Time. And plan to celebrate all we have been given at 6:00 p.m. with your friends and family at FPCD.
