Patchwork Quilting is a traditional American art form. Pioneer families often had only one or two books: McGuffey’s Reader and the Family Bible. Hard-working, thrifty women made clothes for their family and used the scraps to create quilts for their beds. They often named quilt blocks after the stories they read in the Bible.
Nine traditional quilt blocks, named after stories the Old Testament, form this 45” hand-quilted wall hanging. The characters in each story had one or more encounters with God. The names of the blocks are: Job’s Tears, Jacob’s Ladder, Garden of Eden, Children of Israel (crossing the Red Sea), Joseph’s Coat, Walls of Jericho, Dove at the Window (Noah), Fiery Furnace and David and Goliath. Accompanying the quilt itself is sheet with a picture of each block with its name and the passage in the Bible on which it is based.
The back of the wall hanging is crimson cross on a gold ground, symbolizing the Ultimate Encounter with God.
Made from all-cotton materials and 80/20 batting (80% cotton, 20 % polyester). Washable.
