Nyadia is married to Jeff Thorpe and together they have four children – Vincent, Caden, Caius, and Caris. She is passionate about music, both teaching and performing, and has many years of experience as a choir director both at our church and in schools. She has taught voice and music courses at Navarro College, Dallas ISD, Duncanville ISD, Midlothian ISD, and Waxahachie ISD. In this season, she is stepping away from teaching full time in schools to have more time to devote to her family. Currently, besides directing worship at FPCD, Nyadia spends a few hours a week helping in the church office, maintains a busy real estate investment firm, has made herself available to teach music workshops in schools, and volunteers with her son’s football team and school PTA.

We asked Nyadia some questions so you could get to know her better. Here are her answers:

What you are passionate about?

When I”m not teaching music students I maintain a busy real estate investment firm. This small business is a passion project turned “side-hustle” and helps utilize the many transferrable skills I’ve developed as an educator to help both buyers and sellers. This business is not just another thing to do, but something I get to do with my family. I enjoy helping people and seeing them achieve their goals. Working my small family business helps me to achieve personal goals, as well. It helps that it’s a lot of fun! It’s not a burden, at all.

What is your favorite way to spend a day?

My perfect day includes time outside in nature, with a good book and possibly a nice soundtrack of background music or a podcast. I’ll also have time set aside for ice tea or lemonade, baking some cookies or a cake or fixing a good ol’ family-sized meal, a movie or a favorite TV show, and a Frisbee or football to throw around with my sons. Lot’s of fun things to do when I have a day! I enjoy spending the day with my family.

Do you have a favorite movie or book?

I’m a movie buff! Love, love, love cinema and film-making. I absolutely enjoy watching movies at home. I have several titles of musicals on DVD, many Disney movies on VHS, and action-packed thrillers, comedies, suspense and mysteries, as well. I also have many, many books collected, too. Most of the books I read are for professional development, self-improvement, lifestyle books, money management and health books. I also enjoy mysteries and adventure books. I have some biographies and tons of inspirational books. All of that to say, I do not have a favorite, because I absolutely love to read and watch movies!

Who is your favorite person to talk to (living or dead)?

My favorite person to talk to is my husband, Jeff. He’s a great listener, very patient, and supportive. I also often talk to my mom. She gives great advice and is also a great person for me to talk with. I am blessed with amazing friends who share so much wisdom and encouragement. I often fill my day talking with the Lord. “Hi, it’s me again!” and we pick up right where we left off! I’m not good with favorites! I have way too many. 🙂

If you had a superhero power, what would you like to do?

I would like to teleport, in an instant be anywhere I want (NEED) to be. This would greatly cut out travel time! I could be anywhere at the speed of light!
