May 3, 2009 – SPECIAL STORYTELLING OF THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER, by Jim Stahl

We enter a new season now. Over past months we’ve explored what Jesus did. Now, continuing in Luke’s Gospel, we will examine what Jesus said, both to those who traveled with Him and to those to whom He ministered. The disciples spent day and night near Jesus, constantly listening and learning. Scripture tells us a large number of both men and women were part of this group. We will join them for the next seven weeks.

Jesus spoke to the crowds that came to hear Him primarily through parables. Parables are puzzling. They are not logical, nor is their lesson direct. Sometimes they have no conclusion but they “hit you between the eyes.” They are powerful because they contain a message for the heart. Not everyone gets their meaning though; to understand them you have to persist. This first parable, The Sower, includes a promise. Listen for it.
