March 18, 2012 – Torn Down to Be Built Up

Have you ever been somewhere – perhaps sitting out on a beautiful evening looking at the stars – when you just sensed the immediate presence of God? Or have you made a pilgrimage to a cathedral that has the reputation of being a holy place? Sometimes we sense God in a special place so we go back to that place to experience that again.

For the Jews, their spiritual experience was centered around the temple. If the building was there, God was there. If they made their sacrifice, all was okay. That’s why it was so surprising Jesus predicted the temple would fall. Jesus was teaching that it isn’t a certain place or activity that brings God near. But it is Christ who brings Him near. He is not outside us, but inside, making us His temple through the Holy Spirit. Do you sense God’s presence? Come Sunday and let’s talk about it!
